Sexy Speakeasies in NYC

With Valentines Day rapidly approaching, I wanted to share a list of some of my favorite Speakeasies in Manhattan. These bars make great date spots or great places to catch up with friends. In all these cocktail bars the drinks are divine and the ambiance is fabulous.

(A lot of these places don't have websites or phone numbers, so I supplied what I could and linked you to interesting articles about them if they don't have a website.)

Address: Currently relocating :(
This was the first speakeasy type bar I had visited in the city a few years back, when it was at 134 Eldridge Street.  Their drinks were fabulous and the atmosphere was so sexy.  Candlelight and quiet jazz music. It was a place designed for cocktails and great conversations.  Unfortunately they decided to  move to a larger location on 23rd street and then were forced to close when the building was sold.  I hope they open back up in 2015.

Address: 134 Eldridge Street
In the former space of Milk and Honey at 134 Eldridge Street, Attaboy remains a dark cozy candle lit spot, but the music has changed.  Its no longer the quiet conversation spot with its louder rock and roll music, but that's fine with me. And in my opinion, it has the absolute best cocktails.  They use a menuless system that Milk and Honey used where the waiter asks what type of flavors or spirits you are in the mood for and the bartender surprises you with an absolutely phenomenal cocktail. I have been countless times and have never disliked a drink.

Address: 113 Saint Marks Place

The initials stand for "Please Don't Tell".  You enter on St. Marks Street to a fun little hot dog spot called Crif Dogs.  If you like hot dogs definitely give them a try.  You would never know that there is a bar connected to this restaurant unless you spot someone going into the phone booth and never coming out.  You enter the bar by picking up the telephone and announcing your presence, if you have reservations the hostess will let you in through a door in the back of the phone booth.  Again spectacular cocktails and a really fun spot.

Address:  131 1/2  Chrystie Street
Enter what looks like a white walled art gallery.  Browse at the paintings until you get to figure 19.  There you will find a secret door which leads you into a cocktail lounge.  When I went they had lots of lavender infused drinks and I loved them. I think this bar has the most impressive entrance of any of the other speakeasies.

Address:  132 9th Ave between 18th St and 19th St

Coffee shop in the front, 1920's style burlesque show in the back. Slide through a door in the back of the coffee shop and enter an intimate bar where there is jazz, and weekly burlesque shows.  The drinks are wonderful and so are their small plates. I have yet to try their dinner options but they look fantastic.

Address: 510 Hudson Street
Phone: (212) 242-3021
Enter through a psychic's shop where a tarot specialist is reading someone's future.  As you walk past you will enter a gorgeous bar, where the cocktails are great and the food is even better. Try the Ginger Smash its my favorite.

I will be sharing more speakeasies with you in the future but these are my absolute favorites.
