Confession: I was a Serial Addict.
Did you listen?
For those of you who  did not listen, Serial was a podcast investigating the 1999 murder of Maryland high school student Hae Min Lee.  Her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was arrested and later charged for the crime.  Syed has always maintained his innocence and this podcast went about investigating the crime to see if they could turn up new evidence. Recently Serial has been back in the news since Syed was granted an appeal. Read about that here.

I had never listened to a podcast before Serial, I just did not get their appeal, but now I listen to a few, and am actively looking for more.

Here are a list of my current favorites.
This American Life Podcast
This podcast is a recording of the radio show.   If you are not familiar with This American Life, usually the format is that a topic is picked for the week and then the episode is split into three unique journalistic stories that fit the topic. What I like best about This American Life is the range of stories they get to fit their unique topic. I find their stories fascinating, diverse and unexpected.
New Episode Released: Every Sunday
Episode Length: approx. 1 hour
RuPaul What's the Tee? Podcast
RuPaul is my favorite! Loved the talk show in the 90's on VH1 and I am a super Drag Race Fan. I discovered it on Netflix right after Superstorm Sandy in 2012.  We had been living in an area that was devastated by the storm (there was 7 feet of water in our building) and were forced to relocate to my parents basement. Although I was so lucky that we had a safe place to stay after and during the storm, it got a bit depressing living in my parents basement. My husband was working insane hours commuting into New York and I was pretty lovely.
RuPaul's ladies really plugged me out of my funk.
(I'm a totaly sucker for great makeup, puns and reality TV with heart)
I recently discovered RuPaul's podcast and I have been loving everything minute of it.  Ru and Michelle Visage always know how to make me laugh even when they are discussing serious topics.
New Episode Released: Most Wednesdays
Episode Length: Approx. 1 hour

99% invisible Podcast
This podcast describes itself as:
"A tiny radio show about design, architecture & the 99% invisible activity that shapes our world."
It is produced in San Francisco by Roman Mars and KALW.
What I like about this podcast is that its short and perfect for a subway ride. Each episode is about 20 minutes long and about the design and history of a certain object or building. For example one of my favorite episodes was about the Old Penn Station and another favorite was about the design and history of the Ouija board. This show is definitely worth a listen!
New Episode Released: Every Tuesday
Episode Length: 20 minutes or less
Do you listen to podcasts? Any Suggestions? I am in desperate need of new podcasts, they really make my commute more enjoyable.
Happy Listening,

  1. I looved serial as well. I did like podcasts before, the skeptics guide to the universe is pretty good and the freakonomics ones! xx
