Incredible Places: Joshua Tree National Park

I had never been to the desert before visiting California. I had often dreamed about how it would be.  Hot and dry and beautiful.  It definitely surpassed my expectations, especially the heat (118 degrees this day).  Joshua Tree National Park was absolutely stunning.  It is a place where two deserts converge the Mojave and the Colorado Desert so it is the home to an extremely unique collection of plants and animals.

Being in the park was like being alone in the desert. It was amazing. We only saw two cars the whole time we were there.
These teddybear cholla cactus are so cool but never touch them because their spines like to jump.

A hat and Sunglasses are a must when its 118 degrees Fahrenheit.
I had never seen rocks like these before, so neat! And I have to say the sky in the desert was absolutely beautiful.
These little lizards were everywhere.
More gorgeous desert rocks.
I just love desert plants.
Another beauty.
We definitely got a little lost during our trip to Joshua Tree. Its a huge park with amazing views around every corner.  Beautiful plants, rocks and sand.

I would love to spend more time then just a few days in the desert.  The dry heat just felt so good in my lungs.  My hair and skin loved it and I just felt so whole. I dream to one day spend a few months in the deserts of California. Some dream of cities and mountains but I have to say I have always dreamed of heat and palm trees. I will take the cactus too.

Have you ever been to the desert? What were your thoughts?

I just thought it was so incredible.

  3. Wow - these pictures are amazing. I feel like everyone is talking about Joshua Tree Park lately - but clearly the hype is well deserved.

I'm so wanderlusty lately and it's making me sad because a big trip is just so out of my budget. But I do have to go to a conference in Baltimore for a few days in April, so I'm taking a few days before to stop in DC. I'd rather be visiting Joshua Tree Park but I'll take what I can get ;) haha

    1. Kathryn,
Any travel is better then no travel, no matter what the destination. Definitely check out a few of the Smithsonian museums if you get the chance in DC. The National Museum of American History is my favorite. Seeing Dorothy's Ruby Slippers was my best as a kid (and a grown up). Just so cool. The aquarium in Baltimore is really cool too.

I'm totally wanderlusty too and I have no idea when my next trip will be. The cold weather is really getting to me, but it will be spring before you know it. Or at least I hope that to be the case! ~megan
